Labour and Unite
There are now calls from some in Unite to disaffiliate from the Labour Party, and not everyone in Labour will be sad to see them go
The recent travails regarding the former Unite General Secretary, Len McCluskey, an individual whose contribution to Labour’s overall success I regard as minimal at best, have reminded me of this current issue regarding Unite.
I will be honest, I am a moderate, a centrist, I left the Labour Party for three years because of the horrors of the Corbyn leadership and I recall well McCluskey being unhelpful and his tendency to occasionally rub salt into the wounds, I suspect deliberately. So you can understand why, even though the current General Secretary, Sharon Graham, has said that she is aiming for Unite to not directly interfere in Labour Party politics, I look at Unite threatening to leave and a part of me is not sorry to see them go. It would solve a lot of problems for Labour in the long term.
